International Gardener's Day!

theanastasiaplan

Tuesday 23 July is International Gardeners Day!

Anastasia from the Ringing Cedars books began a day to celebrate the great work Gardener’s do (and to create a beautiful birthday for author Vladimir Megre); with a get together and shared meal of home grown produce. Although not officially recognised yet by UNESCO, one day this will be an all-earth holiday.

Here in Western Australia was the fourth year of celebrating the day and hopefully next year it will at least be recognised Nationally.

In 2021, while at the Manjimup CRC, our first year was a community shared meal event together with the Manjimup Community Garden (thanks to sponsorship from Coles),-  and in a tandem event with the Manjimup Family Centre, through a movie night and shared meal.

In 2022, through the Southern Forests Community Landcare, funding allowed an event through the ‘Pollinators Aplenty Project’ and support through the library and local community. Last year I was knee deep in house build with no funding, so just a simple shared meal and get together in my garden with fellow WA Anastasia readers.

This year, still building but now under the homestead roof, we shared great food and conversation on Tuesday. Dish of the day was voted, Francis’s rhubarb and apple tart :)

Food is a need that unites us all; whatever our culture, beliefs, age or sex. What better way to celebrate and promote home grown in a cost-of-living-crisis, than sharing home grown and great conversation with our communities? These positive thoughts and actions throughout the world, in a day celebrating our earth connection will create amazing global goodwill.

Back soon with more good news.
