Workshops speaking about the Anastasia (Ringing Cedars) books are part of my business plan. But having the courage to speak in front of an audience has been a lifelong journey. Friends remember as a child I tried to be invisible, squishing myself into the farthest corner away from people. If I was invisible, I couldn't be in trouble, right? School was the worst, living in fear of the teacher asking me a question in class. Being acutely shy, overanxious, over thinking, were big barriers when around people. Although, it seems that life had other plans to what I had expected ...
In leaping in 'the deep end of life' in living overseas and interstate, gives different opportunities and literally forces you out of your comfort zone.
In the UK (continuing the ARES journey), I worked up to instructor level. My first scary time in front of a class was actually at Westdown camp on the Salisbury plain.
Army instructions are simple, clear, and timed in military fashion ... “by numbers”!
Panic attacks were a huge personal issue to overcome, as I think is common to many naturistic people, happiest in nature, but in those days, it was about 'soldiering on'.
Later, living in QLD and confronted with the big issues in life, I began a life quest for truth – which also meant finding the truth within. Reading self-help books, attending workshops and finding supportive friends led to much inner healing in doing the work on self and wiping away the grime of false beliefs. My journey with Flamenco certainly helped overcome shyness – and anger management in letting go steam about life's injustices!
Back in WA, and now a mature age university student, I helped create an event on campus for International Dance Day, in 2014. We had 5 different dance genres, and I'd asked the other teachers to also share their dance journey, as many of us had no formal training as youngsters. Although shaking with nerves at the time, I managed to share a snapshot of my personal journey before performing my dance. Afterwards people came up to where I was recovering in a quiet area outside and said that what I had to say was as powerful as my performance. I realised then that I had something to say....
Although being out front is still out of my comfort zone, I've since found the confidence to speak at mental health day events, worked as a coordinator and project manager of events and people; and am now finally running my own workshops, so I get to share with people those truths I found on my own life journey and how it all interconnects with the information in the Anastasia books; giving hope for humanity :)
